KPIs for an eCommerce company

As we've talked in the Business Intelligence Group on Linkedin, the idea of this posts is to share the knowledge in order to develop and deliver the best BI projects, having happy customers and learn from each others.

The first case that I would like to analyze is related to the best KPIs to measure an online company focused on sale non-tangible products online, like music, cellphone credits, gaming credits and so on.

At the end of the day and with the collaboration of the subject matter experts, the idea is to have a matrix where everyone can find the "industry standards" indicators, with their frequency, why to measure some indicators instead of another indicators and valuable and reliable information for us.

  1. In my opinion, KPIs in this kind of business are focused basically in how to convert traffic in clicks and this clicks in sales. This kind of funnel will tune the eCommerce in order to obtain better results.

    Other indicators should be based on retention policy, recurring sales and visits, targets and so on.
